SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER GROUPS PROVIDED

 

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM

This program is an ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Level II.1 group is gender specific and meets a minimum of 9 hours per week. It provides individuals the knowledge, structure, and support needed to establish and maintain a long-term program of recovery. Individuals move at their own pace through the intensive program in four phases, which generally take 4-6 months. The program is open enrollment with two parts: Level II.1 IOP groups meet 3 times per week, followed by Level I Continuing Care meeting once per week.

Criteria

An individual must have a drug and alcohol evaluation and be recommended to this group. The individual will generally be diagnosed as having substance dependence.

ADOLESCENT INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM

Southwest Counseling Service’s Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program is designed for adolescents 12 to 17 years old who are abusing or are dependent on alcohol or drugs, including marijuana, methamphetamines, cocaine, and prescription medications.

Groups

Adolescent treatment include American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Level 2.1 (AIOP) and Level 1 (AOP and AOP/CT) groups.

In the first meeting of the week, the group focuses on learning about early recovery, addiction, relapse prevention, and refusal skills. The second group focuses on the cognitive behavioral therapy program on Corrective Thinking, with adolescents learning about ways that they think and behave that result in breaking rules and causing interpersonal problems. Correctives are learned and encouraged to be used. The last group of the week combines process and psychoeducational groups.

Screening & Admission

Eligible participants will have the following criteria:

  • The adolescent is less than 18 years old.
  • An adolescent drug and alcohol assessment is required before treatment.
  • The adolescent must be diagnosed with substance dependence.

This program lasts at least 9 weeks.

CONTINUING CARE

The Continuing Care group is provided to reinforce the treatment an individual has recently completed. It is an American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Level I treatment. The group helps individuals begin living out their recovery plans using tools they have gained.

Criteria

An individual must have successfully completed treatment. It can either be an outpatient or residential treatment program. If you received treatment from an agency besides Southwest Counseling Service, you must have corresponding paperwork stating your completion.

CORRECTIVE THINKING GROUP

The Corrective Thinking group is designed to address thinking errors that are barriers to sober and responsible pro-social living. It is an open-ended, American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Level I group.

Criteria

An individual must have an evaluation and be recommended or ordered to attend this group.

ADOLESCENT AFTERCARE

Adolescent Aftercare is the last phase of treatment for adolescents after completing requirements in the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program. The group focuses on relapse prevention and can include:

  • Weekly journaling
  • Awareness of triggers
  • Warning signs of life changes in home/school
  • Learning to communicate signs of relapse thinking
  • Group support and presentations
  • Assignments

Group will focus on any issues and experiences that may cause them to deviate from their sobriety to help keep adolescents on track in their recovery.

This program lasts 2-3 months.

RELAPSE PREVENTION PROGRAM

Relapse Prevention is for individuals who have completed treatment but relapsed and need a refresher in preventing relapse. This group is an ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) Level I course, has open-enrollment and lasts about 24 weeks.

Criteria

An individual must have an evaluation and be recommended to this group. They must have completed a treatment program, had a period of sobriety and relapsed or returned to use.

RECOVERY SKILLS

Recovery Skills is the first phase of treatment before addiction or abuse becomes an issue. It is an American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Level I treatment. Recovery Skills focuses on communication and social skills while working on a recovery plan. Treatment can include:

  • Coping skills
  • Corrective thinking/right living
  • Knowledge about addiction and abuse
  • Understanding the ripple effect
  • Learning to take control of their lives

BASIC ALCOHOL, TRAFFIC SAFETY & DUI EDUCATION

The education class is based on the Prime for Life which is an evidenced-based prevention and intervention program who may be make high-risk choices, such as impaired driving offenders. It is designed to change drinking and drug use behaviors by changing beliefs, attitudes, risk perceptions, motivations, and the knowledge of how to reduce their risk of alcohol- and drug-related problems throughout their lives.

Criteria

A current evaluation with an addiction severity index is required as well as legal documents.
